He thoroughly researches charges and defenses and he has gained a reputation for writing creative and successful pretrial motions. Many times, his motions have resulted in the exclusion of evidence or the complete dismissal of a case. He also excels in the courtroom during motions hearings, preliminary hearings, and jury trials. He has obtained acquittals at trials for first-degree burglary, theft, indecent exposure, hit and run, driving under the influence, and driving without a license.
Evan is also one of the few trial attorneys who handles appeals and post-conviction cases, and he has argued dozens of times before state and federal appellate courts. Among other successful results, Evan has obtained a full reversal of sex-crime convictions after a jury trial and a reversal of a first-degree murder conviction after an unlawful guilty plea.
